In shortUnder Law 5316/2026, about 15,000 nurses, rescuers and ambulance crews of the national health system (ESY) and the ambulance service (EKAV) are classed as arduous and unhealthy occupations. They can receive a full pension at 62 instead of 67.

What is needed for a full pension at 62

  • At least 15 years of insurance in total.
  • Of these, 12 years in the specialities covered by the scheme.
  • Of the 12, at least 3 years within the last 17 before the age of 62.

There is also the option of a reduced pension at 60, with 35 years of insurance, 25 of them in arduous work.

Buying back time: how much it costs

Anyone who wants earlier time recognised as arduous work pays 5.6% of the monthly salary for each month that is recognised.

Example: with a salary of €1,500 and 5 years recognised, the total cost is €5,040. It is paid as a lump sum or in instalments.

Mind the deadline

The buy-back application must be made within 6 months from the moment the provision takes effect. The deadline is not extended.
